Sport / Last day in Guernsey for Team Shetland as games draw to a close
TODAY (Friday) is the final day of events at the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey, and there’s still time for Shetland to pick up more medals.
The tally is currently standing at two silver and four bronze.
The morning is kicking off with men and women’s half marathons from 9am.
Mary Rutherford, Neil Arthur, Russell Gair and Brett Haining will be representing Team Shetland.
The last possible athletics medal could well come from Seumas MacKay in the men’s 800m final today at 11.15am.
He bagged a silver for Shetland in the 1,500m race on Tuesday.
Table tennis mixed doubles are now underway after the women’s pair made it as far as the round of 16 yesterday.
There will be no action for the badminton squad today however, as they have been knocked out in both singles and doubles tournaments.
The cycling town criterium will begin at midday – competitors will complete laps around a closed circuit at the Seafront in St Peter Port.
Finally, there’s more opportunity for medals from triathletes in the team relay race at 4pm today.
Shetland’s team will consist of Lewis Anderson, Scott Riise and Louise Parr (who was part of the bronze-winning women’s team on Sunday).
The closing ceremony will then commence at 8pm, with a procession from the athletes and a handover to the Orcadians for their event in 2025.
