Sport / Final day at the games: Table tennis, triathlon and more
WITH the Guernsey 2023 closing ceremony quickly approaching, here’s a summary of today’s events.
The morning began with mixed doubles table tennis.
Neither Kay Adamson and Ian Bray or Alison Laurenson and Drewie Drakeford made it past the group stages.
Dawid Niesciur and Joan Smith however were successful in beating Gibraltar, advancing them to the round of 32.
The pair then lost 3-2 to Menorca, eliminating them from the tournament.
In the cycling criterium, Robin Atkinson finished 19th.
Kieran Fraser and John Thomson both dropped out of the race after 15 laps.
The women did not compete today.
Golf results are still to be completed, but Shetlanders Kieren Fraser, Andrew Bain, Robert Geddes and David Nicol are out of the running for medals this year.
The day came to a close with a new event for the Island Games: the mixed triathlon relay.
Lewis Anderson, Louise Parr and Scott Riise swum, cycled and ran for Team Shetland.
They ranked a respectable 7th out of 15 competitors, completing the race in 01:17:07.
