Community / Local titles nominated for media awards
SHETLAND News has landed two nominations in this year’s Highlands and Islands Media Awards.
It is up for the website of the year prize alongside the Inverness Courier and We Love Stornoway.
Reporter Chris Cope is nominated for the ‘environment and sustainability writer of the year’ award for stories written about the effects of the wintry weather last year which caused significant disruption across Shetland.
Meanwhile The Shetland Times is nominated in the newspaper of the year category, going up against the Inverness Courier and the Oban Times.
The Shetland Times’ Chloe Irvine is also up for the young reporter of the year award.
The award winners will be revealed at a press ball event in Inverness on 2 February.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
- Stay editorially independent;
