Community / Local success at media awards
THERE was some local success at this year’s Highlands and Islands Media Awards.
The Shetland Times was named newspaper of the year at a ceremony in Inverness on Friday (2 February).
Chair of the judging panel Nicola McAlley said the paper “provides a great overall package that delivers time and time again”.
Shetland News was nominated in the new website of the year category, with the prize ultimately going to the Inverness Courier. Reporter Chris Cope was also up for the environment and sustainability section.
The Shetland Times’ Chloe Irvine was also nominated for the young reporter of the year prize.
The awards were presented at the 35th annual Highlands and Islands Press Ball.
Press ball chairman John Ross said: “We are delighted the Press Ball continues to bring together colleagues from across the area where they are an essential part of local communities.
“Our charity fundraising is also a vital part of the occasion and we are extremely pleased to be able to contribute in a small way to some fantastic local causes.”
