Community / Goudie joins Up Helly Aa committee
SCOTT Goudie has been elected as the latest committee member for the Lerwick Up Helly Aa.
It means he will take on the guizer jarl role in 2039.
Goudie said he was “truly overwhelmed” by his election and the response from folk.
He was given the committee role at Up Helly Aa’s mass meeting on Tuesday night.
The 33-year-old said Up Helly Aa has been a “huge part” of his life since his dad – who was jarl in 2000 – first took him to the galley shed in 1995.
“Since then I have always been hugely committed towards the festival and I have covered all sectors, but the only thing I haven’t been a part of is the organising committee,” he said.
In particular he has been involved galley building and painting.
