Health / Autumn vaccination rollout to begin next month
NHS SHETLAND will start its autumn vaccination programme from 4 September.
The flu jab will be offered to schoolchildren and anyone over 50 as usual, whilst the rollout of covid boosters will be slightly different this year.
This time, they will only be offered to those over 65, anyone in a clinical risk group and people who work in health or social care.
The UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has advised that protection from illness is at its highest three months from injection, so those vaccinated now in the autumn will be better protected during the peak winter season.
Individuals will be contacted by the health board if they are eligible.
Covid testing for hospital patients and people in care centres will also cease at the end of this month.
It comes after there were reports of increased respiratory infection following the Tall Ships events.
Handwashing and social contact advice remains amid reports of a rise in Covid
