Climate / New Northmavine festival all about recycling and reducing waste
A FESTIVAL celebrating recycling, reducing waste and reusing goods is being held across Northmavine next week.
The Bruckland festival, led by the Northmavine Community Development Company (NCDC), will take place between 4 and 12 September through a variety of events. The programme can be found here.
Between 4 and 10 September scrap metal and old vehicles in the area can be collected for free, while bags, litter pickers and gloves can be provided for beach and roadside clean-ups.
On Friday 8 September there will be a variety of groups and organisations at the Hillswick Hall between 1pm and 6pm to share information and ideas.
Folk aged 14 and over can also try out e-bikes there, while there will be an opportunity for people to donate “pre-loved” sportswear.
The following day will host a ‘nature taster session’ at the Sullom trees, followed by refreshment in the local hall. People are asked to meet at the hall for 10am.
There will also be a ‘make and repair’ event at the Ollaberry Hall on the Saturday from 2pm onwards, where people are invited to come along with anything they are making or mending and have a cuppa.
On Sunday 10 September there will be a produce show and teas at the North Roe and Lochend Hall between 2pm and 5pm.
Also on the Sunday there will also be a ‘crub crawl’ between 12pm and 5pm, where people can check out notable Polycrubs across Northmavine.
Meanwhile NCDC’s Bruckland scrapstore will be open at the Hillswick/Ollaberry junction between 2pm and 5pm between Sunday 10 and Tuesday 12 September.
NCDC development officer Charlotte Anderson said: “Bruckland was set up in 2019 to deal with large household waste and scrap metal for the Northmavine.
“Since then, it has become a real social hub in the community and developed into a reuse centre with a huge variety of items available to take away for a donation.
“The Bruckland Festival is all about celebrating the positive changes that are being made to combat climate change and offering ideas on what else we can do together.
“There are lots of events across the week that anyone can get involved with and we hope to see lots of folk out and about.”
