FOLLOWING her recent success achieving third place at the strongest woman world championship in Finland last year, Shauna Moar has more achievements to her name.

Originally from Lerwick, Moar is now a coach on the mainland based in Middlesborough and has recently focused on expanding her business Moar Coaching. Among other things, she has recently opened her Strength and Fitness unit.

Moar said: “I have just moved to a larger premises where I coach 1-1 and group sessions, all things strength and fitness. I have had recent exciting news that I have been nominated for four awards at the British Fitness Awards 2024.

“I love my job being able to help others achieve their goals, so it is very humbling to be nationally recognised for my work”.

The awards include the categories of ‘Female Personal Trainer’, ‘Independent Newcomer’, ‘LGBTQ+ Personality’ and ‘Industry Newcomer’.

As well as having a busy time growing her business, the weightlifter competed in three competitions during the same month.

These included the WDC (World Deadlift Council) Scottish Record Breakers Day on 30 March, where she broke her own world record for the third time consecutively since 2021, with a world and Scottish record that stands at 225kg for the u85kg women’s trap bar deadlift.

Then she competed in the Strongwoman amateurs u82kg weight category at the Arnolds Sports Festival in Birmingham, a fitness expedition with over 70,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors which took place in the middle of March. Here, she placed fourth overall.

Finally, on 31 March Moar ended this busy month competing in the Scotland’s Strongest Woman in Edinburgh, in the u82kg weight category – again placing fourth overall.

“I’m delighted with the results, I’ve worked very hard over winter and to compete alongside some of the best in the business where I held my own,” she said.

“The weights at competitions get heavier every year and the sport is always growing. I got some personal bests which include carrying a 220kg yoke 30 metres, farmers carry of 100kg per hand, and a log overhead press of 70kg.

“I always reflect on my competitions and then go away and work hard on improving on what I’ve already achieved.” “My biggest competition is and always has been myself and I will always continue to do my best and improve. I’m an extremely determined and driven individual, I don’t think I’d ever give up!”

Moar said she would like to thank her sponsors who allow her to travel all over the UK and overseas to compete. These are Corner Plot Properties, NorthLink Ferries, Moar Doors and iCare Shetland.
