Weather / Enjoy the festive but take extra care on the roads, chief inspector advises
POLICE in Shetland are reminding people to take extra care on the roads after a number of minor accidents today (Friday) as a result of overnight snow and near-freezing temperatures.
Area commander Stuart Clemenson said none of the accidents in Lerwick, Sandness and Dunrossness and elsewhere required police intervention, and there were no injuries reported.
With the festive period ahead, the chief inspector added: “All I ask is that motorists take care, plan their journey, closely monitor their speed and give themselves lots of extra time.
“The weather forecast over the next 48 hours is for the low temperatures to continue so please take care.”
He added: “Finally just a warning to look out for low flying sleighs on Sunday night that may distract drivers!”
Meanwhile, many late busses tonight have been cancelled. For more information check out the Transport Notification on the Shetland News frontpage.
