News / Island produce in Whitehall
NORTHERN isles food and drink were showcased in the heart of London’s Whitehall this week at a VisitScotland reception in Dover House, the home of the Scotland Office.
Local MP and Scottish secretary Alistair Carmichael hosted the event with support from VisitShetland manager Steve Mathieson and Shetlandeli manager Jill Franklin, who was also representing Lerwick Brewery.
Produce on display included smoked salmon and chutneys from Shetland, alongside oatcakes, fudge and cheese from Orkney, as well as beer from four different breweries, including Valhalla in Unst, and whisky from Highland Park.
Afterwards Mathieson said: “You cannot underestimate the importance of events like these for local producers. It presents us with a great opportunity to showcase Shetland’s excellent food and drink.
“We had a great reaction from those present and I would like to thank our local producers for supplying their products to the event.”
