A PARTNERSHIP between Shetland Amenity Trust and Shetland Heritage Association has been awarded a £12,000 grant from Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) to secure a more resilient and sustainable heritage community.
A series of workshops throughout the isles is commencing at Bressay Heritage Centre on Saturday (28 October) to explore strengths and weaknesses of Shetland’s heritage community, and consider opportunities and threats, particularly for the voluntary sector.
Anyone interested in attending this or subsequent workshops or training events, should sign up to the mailing list by emailing heritageconnections@outlook.com
Shetland Heritage Association chair Pat Christie said: “This is a great opportunity to have conversations about what Shetland’s heritage means to us all.
“Through partnership working with Shetland Amenity Trust we will be able to explore existing links within the voluntary heritage sector, find out what is needed and wanted, and look at how we can build on this to ensure we have a heritage network that is sustainable into the future.”
PLANNING permission has been sought for electric vehicle chargers at the care homes in Brae and Walls.
Two rapid chargers are proposed for the North Haven centre in Brae, and one is planned for Wastview in Walls.
PLANNING consent has been given for a waiting room at the Foula ferry.
If built, the waiting room could host an accessible toilet and shower.
However, the council project does not yet have funding in place, with planning permission sought as a first initial step.
A BUILDING warrant application has now been submitted for an observation office at the Fair Isle airstrip.
The applicant is the owner of Fair Isle, the National Trust for Scotland.
A spokesperson said the office would offer space for admin and easier visibility of the airstrip.
“We hope to be able to award the contract for the work in the spring and look forward to keeping people updated on the plans and progress,” they added.
