PROVISIONAL scouting for a new series of the popular Shetland crime drama has started, although there is no confirmation yet that the BBC has committed funds towards producing another programme.

Series eight of the crime drama, for the first time with new lead Ashley Jensen, was broadcast over a six-week period in autumn last year.

Now, some initial research into potential filming locations is being undertaken by local fixer Davie Gardner via social media.

The BBC has said that no decision on whether there will be a Shetland 9 has been made.

VOLUNTARY Action Shetland (VAS) has presented its new strategic plan.

The charity, which provides a single point of access for support and advice for the third sector in Shetland, said its new vision is to be a “strong, sustainable and valued asset for Shetland, playing a leading role in championing and supporting community needs”.

VAS board chair Magnus Flaws said “It has been a very useful process to consider our way forward for Voluntary Action Shetland.  As a board we have recently agreed our strategy which sets out our long-term vision, ambitions and the outcomes we will strive to achieve”

Executive officer Lynn Tulloch said: “I am delighted the board has taken the time to consider our way forward and I look forward in supporting my staff team to deliver on the outcomes and action plan that has been agreed by the Voluntary Action Shetland board over the next few years.”

THE MET Office has issued a weather warning for snow and ice for various parts of the UK, including Shetland, on Sunday and Monday.

Drivers are advised to check weather conditions before travelling, and leave more time to prepare and check their car before setting off.
