Coronavirus / ‘This made my day’
As part of our Covid-19 coverage we are asking our readers to contribute short personal, reflective pieces that touch on the many aspects of living through these unprecedented times. Here is what delivery driver Mark Berry encountered.
I was out doing my home deliveries for JBT at the end of last week, and I have been taken aback by the good welcome I have received from people who can’t leave their homes.
Many times I have received a nice wave or pleasant comment with lots of thanks (for simply doing my job) from people all over the isles.
I know we are key workers at the moment, but compared to what our health services are doing, I don’t think it’s much.
We are trying to do our bit and keep things moving as normal as possible for people, and I suppose a parcel in the door can maybe cheer people up and brighten things up a bit during these dark times. We do also deliver medicines to the pharmacies and the hospital.
Anyway, I have attached a photo of a delivery I went to in Tresta on Friday, and as you can see from the photo, that even during these tough times people can still find time to make ordinary people like me doing their job feel very appreciated and welcome.
This made my day, simply knowing that people do appreciate what we do and have taken the time to let us know that they appreciate us.
Please feel free to get in touch and share your thoughts and experiences of what challenges life throws at you right now.
How do you cope with self-isolation, being unable to go to work or see friends, with home education, with loneliness? And what do you do to counter it? Start an Open University course, go through all those family photos or spent more time with friends online?
We look forward to hearing from you at news@shetnews.co.uk
