Arts / Saxophonist to head north for Lerwick concert and workshop
AN IN-DEMAND saxophone player is to perform at the latest jazz gig to be held in Shetland later this week.
Julian Nicholas will take to the stage with Shetland’s own Daisy Anderson Quartet at Lerwick Town Hall on 15 April – with a workshop planned for the afternoon too.
The gig is the latest to be put on this year by Shetland Jazz and World Sounds (JAWS).
Nicholas runs the well-respected jazz foundation course at Chichester College, while he composes in many styles for his own and other ensembles.
He has composed music for theatre/dance and is a BAFTA nominated film score co-composer.
Primarily a tenor and soprano player, Nicholas plays all the single-reed woodwind instruments and a penny whistle.
He has appeared consistently at national venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The 606 and the Vortex, while his band supported Nina Simone two years running at The Dome for the Brighton Festival.
Tickets for the concert and workshop can be booked online at www.thejaws.uk
