Community / Delting footballers take on charity running challenge
MEMBERS of the senior Delting football team are running the equivalent length of Scotland – 451 miles – to raise money for local charities.
Players are clocking up the miles between them to raise money for the Brae foodbank and mental health charity Mind Your Head.
With Shetland under level three coronavirus restrictions the football club says its senior players will not be able to train.
The fundraiser should allow players to keep fit – and shed some of the Christmas calories in the process.
The 451 miles is taken from a straight route from Unst to the south west edge of mainland Scotland.
Club captain Danny Peterson said: “With the prospect of no football training until late January at the earliest, we decided to put together a club run to keep the fitness up.
“It was decided that alongside the plan to run a virtual length of Scotland, we would try to raise some funds for two fantastic local causes, Mind Your Head and the Brae Foodbank.
“The run has started really well with almost 30 players taking part and the fundraising is also going really well.”
So far £350 has been raised, and anyone wishing to donate can do so online.
