Council / Truck off the road
SHETLAND Islands Council has advised that the B9075 road near the Viking Energy wind farm construction site at Kergord remains open after a truck belonging to a local contractor came off the road on Thursday afternoon.
However, the single track road, east of the Upper Kergord junction, is only passable for cars but not for larger vehicles.
Recovery of the truck is scheduled to take place during daylight hours on Friday when the road will be closed to through traffic for around two hours between 10am and midday.
A spokesman for SSE Renewables said late on Thursday: “At around 2pm today, Thursday 26 November, a truck delivering aggregate for use in construction of the new Sandwater Road gripped the verge at Kergord and slid into a roadside ditch.
“The driver of the truck is uninjured and the appropriate authorities were informed.
“A recovery operation is planned for tomorrow morning by the local sub-contracting firm which owns and operates the vehicle. A spill kit has been deployed at the roadside ditch as a precaution, however there are no reports at this time of any leakages from the vehicle.”
