Arts / Reid wins big at trad awards
SHETLAND fiddler Jenna Reid enjoyed a successful night at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards at the weekend as she got her hands on two trophies.
Reid was named composer of the year at the traditional music awards in Aberdeen, while her group Blazin’ Fiddles scooped the folk band of the year prize.
She said she was “so grateful” for the award wins.
Reid first won at the awards in 2005 in the best up and coming artist category, while she has also been nominated in the instrumentalist section.
Lerwick venue The String and local sound engineer Tim Matthew were also shortlisted for awards this year.
Scottish group Kinnaris Quintet, who are due to perform at Shetland Arts’ Hogmanay event later this month at Mareel, won the biggest award on the night – the Belhaven bursary for innovation in Scottish music.
The award came with a £25,000 prize.
