Community / ‘Afternoon tea in a box’ to be offered by Relay for Life team
AFTERNOON tea in a box will soon be on offer through the Shetland Relay for Life committee to raise money for charity.
From mid February onwards people can choose eight items from fancies, dainties, traybakes and sandwiches to recreate their own afternoon tea.
It will cost £12, with the money raised going to Cancer Research UK.
Starting on Saturday 13 February the Relay for Life team will be baking, boxing and delivering tasty treats.
Olive MacLeod from the Relay for Life Shetland committee said: “One of the great things about Shetland is the fantastic afternoon teas that local halls host.
“Unfortunately, that’s not possible this year, but we hope everyone will take advantage of not having to bake and enjoying a quick nibble for Cancer Research UK.”
Orders can be placed from Sunday (7 February) for the Saturday 13 February afternoon tea in a box on the Relay for Life Shetland Facebook page, where more details of the food available, collection points and delivery areas will be available.
Folk are told to “come back weekly till we run out of boxes”.
It comes after Relay for Life chairman Martin Henderson raised thousands by completing a marathon at the weekend.
The Shetland Relay For Life committee, meanwhile, is busy planning other fundraising events this year.
A virtual relay event is planned for 29 May ahead of next year’s full event on 28 May 2022.
The Relay for Life event had been due to take place last year but it was originally postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.
Relay teams are encouraged to be creative with this year’s fundraising efforts and to share their plans with the committee for help with promotion.
