News / Rockers unleash new single
LOCAL rock band Forgotten Sons have released their new single today (Friday) off the back of a tour of Scotland which saw them play five gigs in five days.
Forgotten Sons, who draw inspiration from the likes of The Gaslight Anthem and Biffy Clyro, have unleashed the song Pennies In The Water online.
“This song is about someone who has been struggling through life wishing for easier times. I sing about coming in and saving them from their demons,” vocalist Robert ‘Birdy’ Burgess said.
“This track is one of our softer songs, and we feel it would appeal to a wider audience.”
A video for the song has also been released, which saw Shetlander Gareth Goodlad – who now lives in Edinburgh – behind the camera.
The single comes off the back of a “very successful” tour of Scotland which saw Forgotten Sons perform in Glasgow, Inverness and Wick before capping things off with two gigs at the Orkney Rock Festival last weekend.
“This past year has been by far the busiest of our band careers,” drummer John Gair added. “Through the use of the internet, social media and radio, it has helped our music reach so many people in a way we couldn’t have imagined.”
The band was featured on a series of BBC Newsbeat videos exploring life on Shetland. They have had videos premiered on respected music websites like Punktastic, while the rockers have also had success on streaming services like Spotify.
“We’re going to continue writing and releasing our own music and playing gigs,” John said.
“After the single release we are going to take some time the rest of the year to write some new material whilst playing some Shetland shows.

“Earlier this year we were in London recording three new tracks – we are going to release them over the course of 2019 which we are planning to follow up with an EP or possibly an album.
“We’re making plans to tour round the UK with our music in 2019, both Scotland and England. We also have some other ideas and plans up our sleeves so watch this space.”
