Entertainment / ‘We were screaming so loud’ – joy for local lasses as Harry Styles waves their Shetland flag
GLOBAL megastar Harry Styles held aloft the Shetland flag on Friday night after a group of locals threw it on to the stage at his concert at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
The flag’s owner Tahlia Leslie, 18, attended the concert with her mother Tracey and friends Lois Phillips and Estella Smith.
The group began queueing at 9am to make sure they would be close to the stage.
Leslie told Shetland News: “While we were [waiting] we wrote Shetland in the flag as we thought Harry would just think it was a Scotland flag.”
When the gig began, Leslie said “there was only one person in front of us”.
She then threw the flag on to the stage when Styles sang Satellite from his latest album. He also put it on a microphone stand.
“I waited till he stopped singing and dancing because I thought I’d have a better chance of him actually catching it,” Leslie said.
“We were all so excited when he got it and we [were] screaming so loud.
“None of us got the best video because we were too excited.”
Due to the group’s lack of videos, Leslie made a post on the social media app TikTok calling for others at the concert to share their own.
Her video now has over 300,000 views.
Leslie concluded: “Overall the concert was so good, he interacted with the crowd really well and his singing was on point. We all had the best night.”
It is not the first time ex-One Direction singer Harry Styles has had a Shetland connection.
An iconic yellow LHD fish box fleetingly appeared in the background of his 2020 video for that track Adore You, which has now had more than 370 million views on YouTube.
