News / Sumburgh bound oil flight forced to return to Aberdeen
THE EARLY morning oil industry flight from Aberdeen to Shetland had to turn back while en route to Sumburgh when the crew received an “alert of a fault” in the right hand engine.
Loganair flight LM901 with 34 passengers and three crew on board landed safely in Aberdeen at 8.15am.
Passengers had to wait for a replacement plane before they could continue their journey later the same morning. They arrived at Sumburgh at 11.20am for transfer to offshore helicopters.
A company spokesperson said the crew had carried out the appropriate actions when the ATR-42 aircraft returned to Aberdeen.
“Engineering checks to identify the cause of the warning indication are already under way,” they said.
“We apologise to customers for the disruption to their journey, yet ask for their understanding that safety is always our first priority.”
