News / New plane for oil route
A NEW 72-seat aircraft has been added to the Aberdeen to Scatsa route for the oil and gas industry.
Eastern Airways will introduce the ATR 72-600 in the coming soon after it was delivered from France earlier this month.
It is the first of two new ATRs that Eastern – which now also runs passenger flights in conjunction with Flybe from Sumburgh Airport – will add to their fleet.
They have twin turbo props using two Pratt and Whitney 172m engines, giving the aircraft a maximum cruise speed of 317mph.
Tony Burgess, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: “These efficient, modern aircraft help us to fulfil a vital role and provide a long-term commitment supporting the oil and gas industry.
“The introduction of these two new ATR 72-600s into the fleet increases our capabilities in the 70-seat market and complements our existing aircraft. They are modern and comfortable aircraft which are ideally suited for the airports we fly to and environments we operate in.”
