News / Puffin aboard
A LIFE-size bronze puffin is set to spend the next eight months mirroring the natural habits of its real-life counterparts by wintering at sea aboard the NorthLink ferry Hrossey.
The 30 centimetre bronze sculpture has been fashioned by renowned Derbyshire
sculptor Eddie Hallam who was inspired during a trip to Shetland last year.
He returned home with all his sketches of the birds he saw at Sumburgh Head and various other places and set to work on a sculpture.
“All the puffins started going back to sea and I thought it would be great if on of my puffins could go back with them,” he said.
The Scottish Wildlife Trust accepted his donation and NorthLink were only too happy to oblige by mounting the bronze on one of their vessels.
