News / Vikings to visit Lerwick
The Follow the Vikings roadshow will descend on the town in November.
THE FOLLOW The Vikings roadshow is set to return to Shetland in November for a theatrical celebration of Viking heritage.
The event, which will take place at Mareel on 24 November, will see a cast of actors, musicians and dancers – as well as fiddle group Hjaltibonhoga and local dancers – retell the story of warrior poet Egil Skallagrimsson.
The “actors perform to a digital backdrop from throughout the Viking world, including the stained glass windows from the Lerwick Town Hall.”.
The standing event is hosted by Shetland Amenity Trust and it follows a roadshow visit to the isles last year which included an all-action reenactment in Unst.
The roadshow has already performed to sell-out audiences in Copenhagen, Catoira, Dublin, Waterford and Stockholm, and it is due to travel to Reykjavík before a finale performance in York in March.
Organisers said the show contains implied violence and is therefore suitable for an audience over 12.
Tickets can be booked online for £2.
