News / Fog disruption
TRANSPORT links between Shetland and Aberdeen were returning to normal on Wednesday morning after thick fog in the city caused disruption to both and air and sea traffic.
The fog was so thick that the freight vessel Hildasay was unable to leave Aberdeen harbour until 8.10pm on Tuesday night, mirroring a similar incident 10 days earlier when the ferry Hrossey was delayed by two hours for the same reason. The Helliar freight boat’s arrival in Averdeen was delayed until 1.30pm due to the fog.
Air traffic between Aberdeen and Sumburgh was disrupted throughout Wednesday morning with the morning flight north cancelled altogether and other flights delayed by more than an hour.
Oil flights into Scatsta were also affected though transport between Shetland and the oil fields continued as normal.
