Community / Museum doors remain closed
IT MAY only be into February before the Shetland Museum and Archives building is reopen following a heating fault which was discovered during the festive period.
The museum confirmed this week that replacement parts have now been sourced, but they are manufactured to order so there will be a wait.
A leak in the heating system was discovered back on 28 December, with the museum doors shut since.
Sandy Middleton, who is head of engagement at museum operator Shetland Amenity Trust, said the Lerwick building was unable to be opened without heating or hot water.
In an update released on Monday, the museum team said: “It’s been a challenging situation, but we are now planning for the arrival of the parts and engineers are on standby to install so that we can reopen as soon as practicably possible.
“We are hoping that this will be by the second week of February.
“Thank you again for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.”
The Amenity Trust operates the Museum and Archives service on behalf of the local authority.
