News / New power plant operator
BP, THE operator of the Sullom Voe Terminal, has awarded the new contract to operate its onsite power plant to Cofely, a subsidiary of multinational energy company GDF SUEZ.
The power plant has been operated by Finnish firm Fortum O&M since 2004.
The 11-year contract will see Cofely also delivering a programme of major maintenance and investment works on the existing plant.
Cofely’s primary responsibility will be to operate the gas powered plant to ensure reliable supplies of power and steam – as well as nitrogen and compressed air to the terminal.
Power will also be exported to the local Shetland grid under a power purchase agreement.
Paul Rawson, managing director of Cofely’s Energy Services division, said: “This is a very significant win for Cofely.
“It marks both our increasing penetration of the energy intensive industrial sector and the expertise that we are able to demonstrate.
“SVT is a critical facility to both BP and the nation’s fuel security as a whole and we are delighted that BP has chosen Cofely to underpin that security.”
The SVT power station consists of four dual fuel gas turbines each rated at 23MW and fitted with a heat recovery steam generator and a bypass stack.
