Education / Temporary change in Sandwick school leadership
THERE has been a change at the top of Sandwick Junior High School following a return visit from inspectors.
Shetland Islands Council’s early years manager Samantha Flaws is now temporarily covering the head teacher post at the school.
Writing in a letter to parents and carers, children’s services director Helen Budge said: “I am sure everyone in the Sandwick Junior High School community will work with Mrs Flaws in the coming weeks.”
As previously reported, Education Scotland inspectors returned to the school earlier this month for a follow-up after a critical report back in 2019.
The school was then given more time to work on some recommendations initially set out in 2019, with a third visit planned for early 2023.
Last week education and families committee chairman Davie Sandison said in a statement: “I wish to reassure the community that every step will be taken to ensure this school meets the same high standards as those applicable to all schools in Shetland.”
Education chair keen to ensure Sandwick inspection recommendations are ‘comprehensively achieved’
