Coronavirus / Covid vaccine clinics to take place over next two weeks
COVID vaccination clinics will be running over the next two weeks at both the Independent Living Centre and Gilbertson Park in Lerwick, NHS Shetland has confirmed.
These include first and second dose Astra Zeneca clinics, and also ‘first dose’ Pfizer clinics for people aged 18-29, the last age group to be called.
People in this age group are asked to look out for a call from an unknown or withheld number over the next few days.
“If you miss a call we will keep trying before sending you a letter,” interim director of public health Dr Susan Laidlaw said.
“When you get your appointment please make sure you know which venue you have been asked to attend as both centres are being used for these clinics.
“Because of the storage and transport requirements for Pfizer, everyone will be invited to Lerwick. Pfizer is now the recommended vaccine for this age group, unless someone has a specific allergy to it.
“The Pfizer clinics are also for young people aged 16-17, but only if they are in a high risk group and have not yet had the vaccine; and for pregnant women.”
Anyone aged 40 or over who has not yet been vaccinated or received an appointment is asked to call 01595 743319 and leave a message.
More information on the vaccination is available on the NHS Inform website.
Printed copies of the leaflets can be obtained by leaving a message on 01595 743319.
The vaccination teams would like to remind people that clinics are appointment only so “please do not just turn up and ask to be vaccinated”.
