Council / Toab shop licence revoked
COUNCILLORS have decided to revoke the Toab shop’s alcohol licence over a non-payment of annual fees.
The shop, which closed suddenly last year, had a £220 premises licence fee due on 1 October 2022.
But that has not been paid despite reminders, leading to the licensing board holding a review.
The holder of the premises licence is Hrafn Shetland Ltd, with Dr Paul Scott its only remaining director.
The licensing board is entitled to issue a written warning, vary a licence, suspend it or revoke the licence.
During a short hearing on Monday councillors were unanimous in agreeing that the licence should be revoked.
Lerwick North and Bressay member Stephen Leask said plenty of opportunity had been given to the licence holder to pay up.
“I think we have no alternative but to revoke the licence,” he said. “We have wasted enough time”.
The meeting was told that a letter sent to the premise licence holder in May about the hearing was rejected and returned to the sender.
SIC solicitor Keith Adam said around two days were taken up writing up reports on the matter, while staff also spent time chasing up the applicant.
