News / Larder shortlisted
BBC RADIO Shetland presenters Jane Moncrieff and Eunice Henderson will be dining out with the UK’s media stars of food and drink in May after their food programme was shortlisted for a national award.
Shetland’s Larder will be competing against two episodes of Radio 4’s The Food Programme for the best radio show in the first annual Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards.
The presenters were invited to submit a bid for the award, but were stunned to find themselves on the shortlist that will take them to Fortnum & Mason’s store for the prize ceremony in London’s Piccadilly.
Moncrieff came up with the idea for the show seven years ago and it has grown from a one off programme presented alongside Caroline Moyes to a regular late show that has proved extremely popular with the local audience.
The programme showcases a wide range of Shetland food and drink from gathering spoots in the ebb to cooking up delights in the “leccie pan” in the studio.
They have also had guests from afar, including Food Programme presenter Sheila Dillon who they will be up against for the radio award.
“They asked us to submit a whole show but it’s all in dialect so we didn’t think they would listen past the first five minutes. We were absolutely delighted to be shortlisted in the final three,” Moncrieff said.
“I have learned so much about Shetland and its food and its traditions, it’s just a lovely programme to be part of.”
