THE SHETLAND Times has been nominated in the newspaper of the year category for this year’s Highlands and Islands Media Awards.
The long-standing, locally-owned newspaper is up against The Orcadian and The Strathspey and Badenoch Herald, while it is also in the running for the best use of digital media category.
Meanwhile BBC Radio Shetland broadcaster Daniel Lawson is one of three nominees for the Alex Main Trophy for the region’s best young journalist of the year.
The winners will be announced at the Highlands and Islands press ball and media awards at Inverness’s Kingsmills Hotel on Friday 3 February.

Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
