Arts / Arts agency apologises for Tall Ships ticket queues as events sell out
Nearly 14,000 tickets were sold in just seven hours – with all three Holmsgarth events now sold out
SHETLAND Arts and Shetland Tall Ships Ltd have apologised to the thousands of punters who were left stuck in long queues – online and in person – while trying to get their hands on tickets for Tall Ships Races concerts this summer.
People were experiencing long delays after tickets sales went live this morning at 10am. So far, almost 14,000 tickets have been sold since.
All three ticketed nights at Holmsgarth have now sold out.
Tall Ships project manager Emma Miller said the company had been “astounded” by the demand.
In a message on social media late this afternoon, Shetland Arts – which operates the box office from which tickets were sold – wrote: “We would like to apologise to anyone who struggled to book online, thank you all for your patience, online and in person.
“Some tickets remain available for the Wednesday DJ night at Mareel. Have a great Tall Ships.”
There were numerous reports of people waiting in queues only for their queue number to quickly rise without warning.
Miller added: “While we did expect a big demand for event tickets with the excellent response to previous announcements, we are astounded with the public engagement.
“We are aware that there are still ongoing issues with getting through on the box office and apologise for the frustration felt by customers. Shetland Arts are doing their best to rectify the problems.”
