Emergency services / Lifeboat brings injured fisherman ashore
THE LERWICK lifeboat was called out earlier on Monday to bring ashore an injured crewman from the French trawler Scombrus.
The skipper of the 81-metre long fishing boat called Shetland coastguard just before 8am to request assistance after a crew member had sustained a hand injury.
It took the lifeboat just 30 minutes to reach the vessel which at the time was five miles east of Mousa.
The crewman was taken to Alexandra Wharf in Lerwick harbour and was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Coxswain Darren Harcus said: “The injured crewman needed prompt medical assistance and we were able to reach the vessel and return him to Lerwick within the hour.
“Our volunteer crew are always able to assist and the skipper of the vessel did the right thing by contacting the coastguard to ask for help for this injured crew member.”
