Arts / Jimmy Perez to return as two new series confirmed for crime drama
POPULAR BBC crime drama Shetland is set to return for two new series.
The news was announced by the BBC on Monday morning.
The show, led by Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Perez, is based on characters based on novels written by Ann Cleeves.
Series six and seven, made by Silverprint Pictures for BBC One, will film in 2020 and 2021 in Shetland and locations around Scotland. Each will feature six hour-long episodes.
Alison O’Donnell (Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh) and Steven Robertson (Sandy Wilson) are also confirmed to return to the show.
Both series will be written and created by David Kane, who oversaw the first series of Shetland and has written on every series since.
Paul Logue (Vera, Death in Paradise) will also write on both series and the producer will be Louise Say (Les Miserables, Dracula).
Shetland‘s fifth series was broadcast on BBC One in February and March.
The programme has been broadcast across the world and is credited with increasing interest in Shetland as a tourist destination.
Commissioning editor for BBC Drama Scotland Gaynor Holmes said: “We are really proud of Shetland, the crime series led by DI Perez and his team has proved hugely popular with audiences both in Scotland and across the rest of the UK.
“BBC One viewers are set for an unmissable series from David Kane when it returns next year.”
