A MAN who drove a car on New Year’s Eve without insurance has been disqualified from the road for six months after breaking the penalty points threshold.
John Barker, of 26 Leaside, Mossbank, admitted the charge which took place at Lerwick’s Ladies Drive on 31 December.
Sheriff Philip Mann gave the 59 year old six penalty points, which meant he activated a six month disqualification as a result of the totting up procedure.
Barker was also fined £250.
A MAN from Brae who admitted possessing three different types of drugs has been fined.
Shaun Hurson, of 9 Lingapund, pled guilty at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday to possessing 14ml of methadone, as well 0.61g of of class A substance DMT, at his home address on 21 December.
The 24 year old was also carrying one tablet of the class C temazepam.
Sheriff Philip Mann fined Hurson a total of £250.
BREAKING the speed limit while he was learning to drive has landed a man from Burra in hot water.
Michael White, of Atlaness, Hamnavoe, drove at 61mph in a 40mph zone on the B9074 East Voe to Hamnavoe road on 24 April.
Representing himself at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday, the 23 year old admitted he was “just going too fast” and didn’t slow down quick enough when the limit changed.
Sheriff Philip Mann fined White £150 and gave him three penalty points.
A MAN and a woman from Lerwick who supplied heroin to each other have been placed under curfew.
Forty two year old Darren Lawson, of Flat 1/2, Mill Lane, and 37 year old Beverley Collins, from 24B Bruce Crescent, previously admitted the charge which took place at an address on the town’s Mill Lane on 9 April last year.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said both of his clients have since made “real progress” in their lives when it came to drug use.
Sheriff Philip Mann decided to give the pair an “opportunity to sort themselves out” and placed Lawson under a 7pm-7am curfew for five months.
Collins, who had a less extensive criminal record, was given a four months long curfew.
