News / Time to think about your right to vote
WITH just another three months until the Scottish Parliament elections, the electoral registration officer has written to all households in Shetland in a bid to ensure that anyone who is eligible to vote can actually do so.
Anyone aged 16 or over that day, resident in Scotland and registered to vote can participate in the election on 6 May.
The letters sent to all properties are listing electors who are currently registered to vote and if they have a postal vote in place. Anyone not included on that letter can register to vote between now and Monday 19 April at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
To register as a postal people are asked to visit www.orkney-shetland-vjb.co.uk and download the application form, which needs be returned no later than 5pm on 6 April.
Depute electoral registration officer for Orkney and Shetland Ian Leslie said: “This is your opportunity to plan ahead to vote in this year’s Scottish Parliamentary Elections.
“If you wish to vote by post you must get your application form to our office before the deadline of 6 April.
“If you have any queries about your registration or postal voting please contact our office on 01595 745700 or email ero@shetland.gov.uk”
