Community / ‘Your kindness has been overwhelming’ – couple says thank you for support received after devastating fire

A COUPLE who lost their home and all their possessions in a serious house fire earlier this month has expressed their heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to a fundraiser set up to help them get back on their feet.

Fire fighters from Lerwick, Scalloway and Sandwick spent many hours on Thursday 4 May to get the blaze at Geoffrey and Judith Johnson’s home at Wadbister under control.

At the end they lost their home and all their belongings.

The following day, neighbour Ryan Thomson set up a GoFundMe page to help raise some vital funds the Johnsons needed to start replacing some of the vital items they had lost.

In a short statement this morning (Wednesday) they said: “We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has so generously donated to the fund kindly set up by Ryan Thomson following the loss of our house, your kindness has been overwhelming.

“We have been touched by the incredible support and thoughtfulness shown by family, friends, folk from our local area, Shetland and beyond.

“Words cannot express our appreciation, thank you.”

So far almost £9,000 have been raised. The GoFundMe page is still available here.
