Arts / Busy music schedule for final week at The String
LERWICK restaurant and venue The String is set to bow out in style later this month with a series of gigs featuring local and visiting acts.
There will be four days of events in a row from 26-29 March on what will be its final weekend trading.
On 26 March Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble will play a solo show with support act Arthur Nicholson, which is already sold out.
The following night Hannah Fisher and Sorren Maclean will head north for a gig, with Skelburn and High Level Hot Club in support.
Orcadian Kris Drever will return to Shetland for a show on 28 March, supported by Scott Moncrieff and Kirmirren.
On Sunday 29 March local folksters Vair, Margaret Robertson and Karen Tweed will perform two shows – one in the afternoon and another in the evening.
Before that DJs Lyall Halcrow, Jamie Hatchbar and Brendan Hall will host a free club night on 21 March.
The directors of The String announced last month that they would cease trading due to economic challenges and work-life balance.
Food service, which is already reduced, will end after 14 March.
Director Neil Riddell said: “In many ways we’re sad to be calling it a day, but we are determined to go out on a positive note.
“We’re thrilled that so many great musicians, both visiting and local, have agreed at pretty short notice to come and do what they do best.”
