News / Mart holds spring sale of cattle and sheep
CUNNINGSBURGH farmer J&DS Halcrow picked up the Bryden Budge memorial cup during the spring show of cattle held at the Lerwick mart on Wednesday.
A total 163 cattle, around 230 sheep and various items of equipment went up for sale following the judging of animals by Lerwick farmer Brian Anderson.
J & D S Halcrow also scooped the prize for the three top stots presented at the show.
The Budge family of Bigton farm won first for their heifer.
Proceedings were slightly delayed for auctioneer Rod Mackenzie as the morning flight from Aberdeen had gone technical.
However, once the auction was under way, there was a lot of interest and prices were good.
Mart co-ordinator Elaine Read said: “This has been the largest spring sale in some years.
“Prices have been good, which only demonstrates the value of having the mart here in Lerwick.”
