Community / CAB to run money advice clinics
SHETLAND’s Citizens Advice Bureau has received new funding to run a series of money advice clinics for people seeking support with their finances.
Every household in the isles has been sent a leaflet offering a free, one-to-one appointment with a money adviser online or by phone.
The funding for the clinics has come from Citizens Advice Scotland.
“Money worries are mounting up for many Shetlanders but nobody has to face them alone. Whatever concerns folk are facing, we are here to give support and guidance that is tailored to each person’s situation,” local bureau manager Karen Eunson said.
Recent research for Citizens Advice Scotland has found almost four in ten people in Scotland are concerned about their income.
Shetland CAB can offer advice on paying bills, budgeting and avoiding getting into debt.
If people are in debt, the bureau’s money adviser can then work through various options including negotiating with creditors on their behalf to see how the debt can be resolved.
Eunson added: “It’s important for people to talk about any money worries they have, and our local advisers are here to listen and to help.
“Our support is free, non-judgemental and fully confidential, we’re just here to try to help folk get back on track.”
The first appointments are available next week and they can be requested on sicab@shetland.org or 01595 694696:
- Wednesday 3 February, 10am-2pm
- Thursday 4 February, 3pm-7pm
- Friday 5 February, 12pm-2pm
- Saturday 6 February, 10am-1pm
