Community / Mid Yell shop and post office could reopen
A PUBLIC meeting is being held in Yell later this month to discuss the future of the Linkshouse Stores, which has a new owner after it closed suddenly two years ago.
The former shop at Mid Yell and its associated buildings are now owned by Lindsay Laurenson and he believes it may be viable for the shop and post office to reopen – possibly under community ownership.
Mid Yell Development Company is set to host a meeting on Tuesday 30 April at the Mid Yell Hall from 7pm to gather the public’s views on future of the shop and in particular the community ownership model.
The Linkshouse Stores and post office closed without notice in May 2017 after owner Jeremy Collard shut up shop.
Laurenson has approached the Post Office and there is interest from the company to relaunch services in the area.
There are also hopes that fuel provision could also be reinstated if the shop is reopened.
The public meeting has been facilitated by the development company following a request from Yell Community Council.
Mid Yell Development Company says that “strong community support and action” is required to move the project forward.
The news comes after plans were lodged to reopen a shop in the old Brough Stores in Burravoe, Yell.
Blackpool-based Leslie Madden has bought the dilapidated building and hopes to have a small convenience store within the property once it is renovated.
