Business / New owners in place at Scalloway Meat Company
SCALLOWAY Meat Company is now under new ownership after a local group of shareholders bought the retail shop and butchers.
Long-term owner Neil Watt, who has spent decades growing the business, said: “I’m delighted to be handing over the company to the new owners and wish them every success for the future.”
The new shareholders are John Alex Cromarty, Eric Graham, Ross Keith, Sarah Kerr and Margaret Roberts.
The handover took place today (Saturday).
Representing the new shareholders, Roberts said: “We are excited to be taking over the business and look forward to building on Neil’s success.
“The Scalloway Meat Company sits at the heart of the village with many loyal customers across the islands.
“Our aim is to continue to deliver and enhance the high quality products and service at the Scalloway shop and our Toll Clock Butchers in Lerwick, and supplied to local shops throughout the isles.
“We look forward to working with and expanding the wide range of local suppliers who are key to the Scalloway Meat Company’s distinctive offering.”
The company, which was established in 1925, has a general merchants and butcher shop in Scalloway, where its meat processing facilities are based.
It also has a butchers shop at the Toll Clock Shopping Centre in Lerwick, which is currently the only display counter shop of its kind in Shetland.
The company also supplies meat products to local shops and businesses.
